After graduating from MaKami College’s Massage Therapy program a number of years ago, Julian Romanetti has come a long way.
You may remember Julian, he was profiled a few years ago after graduating from the massage therapy program. You can read his previous success story here: Julian – An Entrepreneur’s Journey to Massage Therapy – MaKami College
Since then, he has built his own massage therapy business, and in 2024, he graduated from MaKami’s Personal Trainer program.
Located in Edmonton, Julian’s umbrella company, Manual Therapy Technicians of Canada, includes Energy Resurgence Clinic and Corporate Clinics, which is launching soon. Two other brands in development include spa group events and fitness challenges.
Energy Resurgence Clinic caters to seniors, with one clinic operating in a seniors’ home and Julian currently negotiating with another home.
“This is important for seniors because these types of services are not facilitated properly,” Julian says. “There is limited or no accommodation made for seniors to have these services available through their benefits program, which makes it difficult for them to access.”
Julian intends to expand further into seniors’ homes and make his services as affordable as possible.
“Seniors have charted the path for us. Right? We should honour our seniors.”
Corporate Clinics, on the other hand, will be mobile massage therapy clinics travelling to corporate locations.
Although Julian has a growing business, he enrolled in MaKami’s Personal Training program to offer more services to his clients.
“I was in the pilot class of that program,” he says, explaining that he enjoyed providing feedback as he worked through the program.
“The majority of us were all MaKami graduates of the Massage Therapy program. This allowed us to have interesting perspectives towards personal training because we’re dealing with muscles. As massage therapists, we’re musculoskeletal experts.”
The program was a natural fit for Julian because he already practiced a healthy lifestyle and thinks it’s a way to live longer.
“Our body is a machine. How we treat our body is how our body will treat us in return,” he says. The flexible online and in-person program made balancing his business and college possible.
“It was two full days a week and I was able to sacrifice the time away from my business because I knew it was temporary.”
Julian adds he appreciates the supports that MaKami provides to students facing barriers.
“MaKami is very helpful with people of varying backgrounds, life circumstances or learning disabilities. They go that extra mile to make sure that people get through their courses and that’s appreciated.”
He is now providing personal training as part of his business, with both services complementing one another. Massage therapists treat clients for issues related to bones, muscles and joints, but personal trainers provide services like tailored exercise programs.
“The more my clients take care of their bodies with a good exercise program or stretching, the less likely they are to develop complications as they get older,” he says.
Julian loves what he does and has one piece of advice for those people seeking a possible new career path, “Never do anything if you don’t have a passion for it.”
