MaKami College is proud to announce that its President & CEO, Marija Pavkovic Tovissi, has been honoured with the prestigious King Charles II Coronation Medal, recognizing her exceptional contributions to the community, province and country.
The award was presented at a ceremony at the MacDougall Centre in downtown Calgary by the Honourable Minister of Advanced Education Rajan Sawhney. In accepting the honour, President Pavkovic-Tovissi expressed her gratitude. “I am deeply honoured to receive this recognition alongside so many remarkable individuals who have made lasting impacts in their communities. Every day, I am privileged to witness the transformative power of education, and I remain committed to removing barriers, empowering individuals, and fostering opportunities that help people realize their full potential. It is through education that we can truly change lives and build a brighter future for all.”
This distinction adds to the President’s impressive list of recognitions. In 2023, she was also awarded the Alberta Newcomer Recognition Award and the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, underscoring her ongoing commitment to public service and community development.
Founded in 2001 by the founding Pavkovic family, MaKami College has its roots firmly planted in community support. Initially established as a vocational institution, the College’s mission has always been to empower individuals from diverse backgrounds through accessible and transformative education. Over the years, MaKami College has expanded its program offerings while maintaining a steadfast focus on its student-first approach.
In addition to academic programs, the College provides an array of support services, including free tutoring, ESL programs, counseling, food security initiatives, and addiction support. These services are designed to help students overcome personal and academic challenges, ensuring they have the resources they need to succeed.
MaKami offers a blend of in-person and online learning options at its campuses in Edmonton and Calgary. With a focus on hands-on experience, highly trained instructors, and personalized support through its Student Success Centre, the College is committed to equipping students with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel.
