MaKami College seeks to recognize the outstanding efforts of its students through a variety of student awards.

MaKami Champions

The MaKami Champions award recognizes academic achievements from students in all programs.  

Each year, the awards committee will choose a MaKami Champion from each program based on the eligibility criteria.

MaKami College's Brian Curial Legacy Award

Brian Curial Legacy Award

The Brian Curial Legacy Award is named after the late Brian Curial, renowned former legal counsel for MaKami College.  

The Brian Curial Legacy Award (BCLA) is an award to recognize students with outstanding academic achievements who also represent MaKami’s Student Values. Up to six award recipients are chosen each quarter, each receiving a cash award of $3000. 

The award is open to all students who have successfully completed their program and paid any outstanding tuition fees.

MaKami’s Student Values award is a student-to-student nomination. Students can nominate one another in one of the four MaKami values categories:

MaKami Student Value Awards
The Richard R. Singleton Award is open to all students enrolled in the Applied Politics and Public Affairs program. It is established in memory of Linda A. Singleton, former Assistant Deputy Minister of Public Affairs in the Ralph Klein Conservative Government of Alberta.

Richard R. Singleton Award

The Richard R. Singleton Award is open to all students enrolled in the Applied Politics and Public Affairs program. It is established in memory of Linda A. Singleton, former Assistant Deputy Minister of Public Affairs in the Ralph Klein Conservative Government of Alberta.

 Linda’s exemplary career included many years in Public Affairs with Husky Oil and Transalta. Richard (Ric) and Linda volunteered for many years in the Provincial Conservative constituencies and the Federal Conservative constituencies.

The award’s recipients will have demonstrated MaKami’s values of leadership, innovation and community service, and reflect a focused work ethic, having achieved a high level of academic standing.

Detailed eligibility is outlined in this application form with the award being available to two recipients at the end of the first year or any time during the subsequent year.

This award will be applicable at the end of their year 1 of 2 or anytime in year 2 as long as they have maintained their grade point average and have met all of the above criteria.

Safe Haven Educational Scholarship

MaKami’s Safe Haven Educational Scholarship was established by MaKami’s President & CEO Marija Pavkovic Tovissi as part of the college’s ongoing commitment to serving vulnerable young women in our community.

Safe Haven Foundation was founded in 2000 by one couple’s personal mission to develop a program dedicated to keeping homeless and at risk teenage girls safe, off the streets and in school.

This scholarship program is open to youth from Haven’s Way, Haven’s Harbour and Alumni of the program who want to pursue post-secondary education.

Applicants must include a brief 500-word description about themselves, two letters of reference, and confirmation of enrolment in a MaKami College program.

A committee has been appointed to oversee the administration of the new General Hillier Valour and Service Veterans and Military Families Scholarship.

Veterans and Military Scholarship

The General Hillier Valour and Service Scholarship for Veterans and their Families was established with an initial $1-million award by the founding family of MaKami College as a part of their ongoing commitment to creating educational opportunities with barrier-free access to higher education.

Why MaKami

MaKami College is a publicly-funded, not-for-profit independent academic institution with locations in Edmonton and Calgary, Alberta.

MaKami is recognized by the Government of Alberta’s Ministry of Advanced Education and is listed on the Government of Canada’s list of Designated Learning Institutions. We are also in good standing with NHP CanadaCRMTA, and the Canadian Sports Massage Therapists Association.

MaKami opened in 2001 and grew to become the largest massage therapy school in Alberta, teaching students to become highly trained massage therapists with our 3,000 hour Advanced Clinical Massage Therapy Diploma program. Since then, the school has grown to include programs for Early Childhood Education, Personal Training, Medical Office Assistant, Applied Politics & Public Affairs, Health Care Aide, Business Administrative Assistant, Master Instructor and Alberta Basic Security Training.

MaKami offers a blend of flexible online and in-person classes, with highly trained instructors, work experience opportunities and plenty of one-on-one attention within our Student Success Centre.

MaKami also strives to help people of all ages and backgrounds achieve their educational dreams with various Student Services to assist in areas such as financial support options, tutoring and ESL support.
