MaKami College Brings Team Together to Learn, Connect and Lead

In August 2026, MaKami College brought employees together in Edmonton and Calgary for the Impact Professional Development Conferences, two full-day, staff-wide learning experiences designed for every department. Held in Edmonton on August 19, 2026 and Calgary on August 26, 2026, the conferences marked the first time MaKami brought the full College team together around one shared experience.

Under the theme “Mission Possible: One Mission. One Team. Ready to Launch,” Impact 2026 encouraged employees to look beyond individual roles and consider how every lesson, service, decision and interaction contributes to student success. The conference reflected a simple but powerful idea: meaningful institutional progress happens when people learn from one another and move forward together.  

A shared mission for MaKami College

Impact 2026 was designed to strengthen College culture, build relationships across departments and create opportunities for staff to share practical knowledge, strategies, tools, techniques and skills.

The conference also supported awareness of MaKami College’s vision for the future and an opportunity to unite around a shared vision, strengthen connections, learn from colleagues and celebrate the work happening across the College.

Learning designed for the whole College

The Edmonton and Calgary conferences combined leadership messages, networking, a keynote presentation, panel discussion, breakout sessions, reflection and celebration.

Keynote speaker Evan Weselake presented “The Vision to Stay the Course: How We See Change, Overcome Fear, and Build Success Together.” The session explored how people experience change, what can distract teams from their goals, how trust supports progress and why maintaining focus matters when circumstances shift.

Afternoon breakout sessions expanded the learning into areas including leadership, student support, communication, mentorship, psychological safety, accessibility and technology.

This range of programming reflected MaKami’s belief that student success is supported by the entire College. Instructors, administrators, advisors, support staff and leaders each contribute to the student experience, and Impact 2026 created space for those perspectives to meet.

Connection across campuses and departments

One of the most important goals of Impact 2026 was to strengthen relationships across the organization. Staff participated in networking, informal discussions, shared learning and structured reflection throughout the day.

The event closed with a commitment to action and a reminder that MaKami’s future depends on the people behind its vision. By bringing employees together around learning, purpose and student impact, Impact 2026 helped strengthen the relationships and shared understanding required for the College’s next chapter.
