Ramandeep – Building a New Future with Massage Therapy

Originally from India, Ramandeep was running a salon from her home and decided she wanted to increase her business. “My mother is a retired principal back in India, and she encouraged me to look at going to school.”

Ramandeep decided she was interested in a career as a massage therapist. As she was looking at schools, she found MaKami College.“I was nervous about going to school,” she admits. “I am a mom and I have two kids, and my English wasn’t very good.” But when she met with her student advisor who spoke Punjabi, Ramandeep instantly felt at home. “She assured me that the college would help me every step of the way, and she made me feel confident that I could do this.”

She decided to enroll, and says it was difficult at first. “My English was not very good, and sometimes I couldn’t always understand what the instructors were saying. But our instructors are very nice, and we can ask them any question again and again, and they will always give you answers and explain it.”

Now in her second year, Ramandeep says things have gotten easier. “I found when I worked hard and dedicated time to it, it became easier. There are also so many supports to help you succeed here. There are tutors and staff members from every community here, they are helpful with free ESL training, tutoring if you need to catch up and even with financing options. Any help you need you can get here at the college.”

After graduating, Ramandeep has plans to run her own massage therapy business from home or mobile. “You don’t need too much space for it, and it is perfect for families because it is flexible with my schedule,” she says. “Plus, MaKami has taught me how to start a business, how to get clients, and we learned a lot of hands-on practice, so I feel very confident in my success after graduating.”

She encourages anyone thinking of pursuing a career as a massage therapist to come check MaKami out.

“I think if I can do it, you can do it too – come join MaKami College!”
