The MaKami College Education Foundation (MEF) is proud to announce the inaugural presentation of the Richard R. and Linda A. Singleton Award to Olivier Hitimana and Brianna Milgaard, Applied Politics and Public Affairs students at MaKami College’s Edmonton campus.
Established through the generosity of Richard R. Singleton, the award was created in memory of Linda A. Singleton, a former Assistant Deputy of Public Affairs during Ralph Klein’s Conservative government.
The scholarship supports students who have demonstrated leadership and dedication to their studies while making meaningful contributions to those around them. It also reflects a shared belief that education has the power to transform lives and create opportunities for future success.
“Olivier and Brianna both exemplify the spirit of this award through a commitment to academic excellence and community involvement,” said Gladys Loo, Director of Fund Development and Donor Relations at the MEF.
“The Foundation is honoured to recognize the achievements of students who continue to inspire others through their determination and leadership.”
The award represents a new milestone for MEF as it expands opportunities for students pursuing post-secondary education. Through scholarships and donor-supported initiatives, the Foundation works to remove barriers and help students achieve their educational and career goals.
“Education opens doors that can change a person’s future,” said Richard R. Singleton. “It is a privilege to support students who have demonstrated resilience, hard work and a desire to make a positive impact in their communities. Seeing the first student receive this award makes this initiative especially meaningful.”
An intimate luncheon brought together scholarship recipients, donor Richard Singleton, MaKami College’s CEO and a Foundation representative to celebrate student success. The smaller gathering offered recipients a unique opportunity to connect personally with Richard and MaKami leadership and share their experiences and future aspirations.
As the first recipients of the Richard R. Singleton Award, Hitimana and Milgaard join a growing group of students whose achievements reflect the Foundation’s mission of creating pathways to education and opportunity for all.
“As the Foundation continues to expand scholarships and bursaries, more students will be able to apply for these opportunities and make a difference in their educational journey,” said Loo.
