Edmonton, AB | May 11, 2026 — Post-secondary education can feel beyond reach for many adult learners, who face real life challenges like financial hardship, disabilities, language barriers and more.
But one Edmonton charity is working to remove these barriers and empower individuals to pursue their educational dreams.
On May 16, the MaKami College Education Foundation is hosting its inaugural Guiding Lights Gala, an evening dedicated to supporting student success and access to education.
“The Guiding Lights Gala is about recognizing the realities adult learners face and responding with compassion and action,” said Marija Pavkovic-Tovissi, founder of the Foundation. “Education is more important now than ever as the cost-of-living increases, and when students are supported beyond the classroom they are better positioned to complete their education and move forward with confidence.”
Held at the Fairmont Hotel Macdonald, the Guiding Lights Gala will unite the community around a shared belief that post-secondary success is critical to securing jobs and improving quality of life. Funds raised will support foundation-funded programs that address food insecurity, access to childcare and language and academic supports, helping students remain focused on learning and career preparation.
