Avelina – Adding Massage Therapy To Her Resume

Regular Success Stories readers may recognize Avelina – she was recently featured as a graduate of MaKami’s Health Care Aide (HCA) program in 2018.

Avelina is also a graduate of MaKami’s Advanced Clinical Massage Therapy Program. “I was working at MaKami with students when we would go do massage therapy events around Calgary, and I would always hear good stories about massage therapy and the program from students, so I decided to enroll,” says Avelina, who graduated from MaKami’s massage therapy program in 2019.

Today, along with working as an HCA, Avelina works as a massage therapist at Rockyview Massage and Spa just north of Calgary.

“Rockyview Massage and Spa is a brand new clinic,” says Avelina. “The owner of the spa is a graduate of MaKami’s massage therapy program – actually I’m the one who introduced them to MaKami. After he graduated from the school he opened a new clinic and they asked me if I could come work with them. It’s good because it’s brand new and the owners are all my friends, its like they are my family too, so I’m happy they hired me there.”

Avelina says she loved the massage therapy training she received at MaKami.

“This program prepared me to be a good massage therapist. It’s a 3000 hour program so we have more experience than any other school, and it’s because Makami has such a focus on providing high-quality, hands-on training. They really prepare you step by step until you are fully prepared to go work in the field.

“My favourite part about MaKami is when you are doing the hands-on practice with classmates – you are practicing at the same time, and also you are getting a free massage from your classmates. Also, the instructors are very supportive. They are all there – if you ask something you don’t know they’ll guide you ad show it to you. They’ll help you improve yourself. MaKami always offers a lot of support – you get an email if you miss your classes, they’ll offer you tutoring, they help you catch up if you need it. They’re really there to help you succeed.”

Avelina says that support extends past graduation.

“I highly recommend MaKami because they are very supportive not only while you are studying but also in finding a job after you graduate. I think MaKami is the best school.”
