Working in an administrative role within the health care system, Medical Office Assistants, also known as medical office receptionists or administrators, are a crucial part of the healthcare system. Working in a variety of healthcare settings such as clinics, hospitals, dental offices and more, they have a unique combination of communication skills, organizational skills, technical skills, and an interest in the medical field. From greeting clients at the door to taking their vital signs, Medical Office Assistants help keep healthcare operations running!
MaKami College’s 10-month (900 Hour) Medical Office Assistant course is offered in a blended format, with theory and in-class components, making it easy to balance school with family and life. Students can earn a diploma in under a year, and at MaKami, you get a laptop with all your program curriculum fully loaded!
MaKami’s unique Medical Office Assistant program is based on a case study format. On your first day of school, you are “hired” as a medical receptionist in a mock company. You will have imaginary clients, co-workers, tasks and assignments, giving you the edge to hit the ground running when you graduate less than a year later!
Using the latest technology, all students will be provided with a laptop for their studies, fully loaded with their program curriculum. Students will begin the first four months of their program learning basic administrative functions, and then move into learning healthcare-specific skills such as healthcare fundamentals, medical terminology, medical software and more.

As English is the language of instruction in all programs at MaKami College, we require all applicants to demonstrate communicative proficiency in the English language prior to admission acceptance. For the Medical Office Administration Program, this could include one of the following:
Completion of previous education with either a High School or Post-Secondary Diploma in an institution where English is the primary language of instruction and communication
Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) Literacy Placement Test with a score of 6 or equivalent in each of the four competencies: reading/writing/listening/speaking
Completion of English 20-1 or equivalent with at least 60%, or English 20-2 or equivalent with at least a 65% passing grade. If the credentials are from outside Canada, the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS) will be used to assess the equivalencies of the courses submitted.
