MaKami College offers continuing education opportunities throughout the year, including a number of workshops for students as well as the general public. 

Massage Therapy Workshop Students

Continuing Education

English Language Learning (ELL) 

The English as an Additional Language (ELL) Program, offered in Levels 6 and 7, will develop your English listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills while using technology to improve your computer skills, meeting employment and admission requirements for post-secondary programs. Led by experienced instructors, our full-time, in-person classes accommodate your work and family commitments with evening and weekend options.   

MaKami College is an official CELPIP Preparation Provider. After the successful completion of this program, you will receive a Certificate of Completion from MaKami College.  

Program Admission Requirements 

Standard Admission for ELL Level 6:  

Applicants may be considered for standard admission if they meet all of the following criteria:

  1. Minimum 18 years or older
  2. Minimum English-Language Proficiency Level:
    • CELPIP Level 5 or equivalent 
    • CLB Level 5 
    • IELTS, reading 4.0, writing 5.0, listen 5.0, speak 5.0 
    • TOEFL: overall IBT score of 61 or 3.0+
    • Duolingo: minimum score of 90 

Standard Admission for ELL Level 7:  

Applicants may be considered for standard admission if they meet all of the following criteria:

  1. Minimum 18 years or older
  2. Minimum English-Language Proficiency Level:
    • CELPIP Level 6 or equivalent 
    • CLB Level 6 
    • IELTS, reading 5.0, write 5.5, listen 5.5, speak 5.5 
    • TOEFL: overall IBT score of 68 or 3.5+
    • Duolingo: minimum score of 95

English Language (ELA) 202

The English Language Arts (ELA) 202 is a program for students looking to achieve English language equivalency to Alberta Education English 202. 

This 100-hour, online course is designed to be completed in a minimum of 8 weeks. Delivered in an interactive and engaging format, students are given a timeline to complete assignments, quizzes and exams, and instructors and tutors are available at all times to help students stay on track, or to answer any questions they may have throughout the course.

Once the course is complete, students will receive a Certification of Completion.  

Course Admission Requirements

Due to the nature of this program, there are English Admissions Requirements. These include:

  • A minimum 60% in English 10-2 or 50% in English 10-1 Alberta Education OR
  • A course equivalent based on MaKami’s assessment

Security Guard Professional Continuing Education

Security service professionals in Alberta work in many different industries and sectors. Businesses and individuals hire security guards and trained security professionals to fill various roles for protecting and serving their employees, properties and possessions. This industry is continuously growing with a strong demand for security service professionals that have the necessary security training for a variety of security scenarios.

By taking MaKami College’s Security Professional continuing education courses, you will be setting yourself up with the additional training that goes above-and-beyond the call of duty and will help you gain the skills needed in order to pursue your security services career dreams and stand out from the crowd. These security guard training courses will provide you with crucial skills that will guide you as you encounter various scenarios in your role as an Alberta Security Service Professional.

Our custom security courses are designed with the collaboration of a former Calgary police officer and negotiator to include specific security topics including:

  • De-escalation and conflict resolution strategies.
  • Skills to gain voluntary compliance.
  • Crisis management and suicide intervention.
  • Understanding the dynamics of violent behaviour.
  • Communication skills for effective interviewing and reporting.

Note: These additional security guard courses are coming soon. They are not currently available for students.
