MaKami College has successfully completed the final phase of its transition to becoming a publicly-funded independent academic institution by becoming a not-for-profit entity.

This milestone marks the completion of a rigorous process, undertaken since March 2023, to fulfill all regulatory and legislative requirements under the Private Vocational Training Act and the Post-Secondary Learning Act.

“Transitioning to a not-for-profit institution has always been part of our vision for establishing a lasting legacy as a college,” said Marija Pavkovic-Tovissi, President and CEO of MaKami College. “This move not only aligns us with other provincial institutions but also demonstrates our continued commitment to serving the public interest. While the process has presented challenges, we are confident this is the right decision for our college, our students, and the communities we serve.”

Founded more than 21 years ago by the Pavkovic family and rooted in community support, MaKami College began as a private vocational institution with a mission to empower individuals of all ages and backgrounds through the transformative power of education. Over the years, MaKami College has expanded its program offerings while staying true to its student-first approach. MaKami College provides comprehensive student support services, including free tutoring, ESL programs, counselling, food security initiatives, and addiction support, ensuring students can overcome barriers and achieve success.

MaKami College provides students with a combination of flexible in-person and online classes at its campuses in Edmonton and Calgary. With highly trained instructors, hands-on work experience opportunities, and personalized support through the Student Success Centre, MaKami College students are equipped to excel in their programs. Program offerings include 3,000-hour Advanced Clinical Massage Therapy, Early Childhood Education, Personal Training, Medical Office Assistant, Applied Politics and Public Affairs, Health Care Aide, Business Administrative Assistant, Master Instructor and Alberta Basic Security Training.

This transition marks the beginning of a new chapter for MaKami College, reinforcing the school’s commitment to being a community-driven institution committed to excellence, accessibility, and lifelong learning.
