Role Description
Early Childhood Educator Level 3
The Early Childhood Educator Level 3 will:
- Perform duties following the philosophy, mission statement, and core values of Little Wonders Academy.
- Demonstrate professionalism by adhering to provincial regulations and Little Wonders Academy policies and procedures.
- Provide high quality early learning, and childcare in a group setting that responds to diverse needs and promotes the optimum physical, social, emotional, intellectual, cultural, and creative development of the children in our care.
- Work as a member of an early learning and childcare team to develop and implement programs that meet the developmental needs of the children within the Little Wonders Academy setting as determined by the age of the group and stages of development.
- Work as a member of an early learning and childcare team, applying sound childcare knowledge and practice ensuring the needs of all the children are met and that the childcare team is functioning effectively.
- Supervise all aspects of the early learning and childcare program for which they are responsible and as assigned by the Director.
- Share professional experiences, coach, guide others with a positive attitude, provide resources, role model best practices, and foster a positive regard for the profession.
- Develop collaborative partnerships with the children’s families that honour their role as the child’s primary caregiver, respect their parenting practices, and provide meaningful opportunities for families to determine their children’s learning and care experiences.
- Develop a trusting relationship with each child; teach respect of self, feeling of security, selfawareness, and feelings of belonging.
- Collaborate with colleagues, to follow through on recommendations from outside agencies regarding children with exceptional needs and help implement a plan appropriate for that child.
- When the Director is not on the program premises, a staƯ member certified as an Early Childhood Educator Level 3 may be the designated staƯ member to assume the responsibilities of the Director during the supervisor’s absence.
Qualifications
- Certified by Alberta Children’s Services; Child Development Branch, Child Care Staff Qualifications, as a Level 3 Early Childhood Educator.
- Current Child Care First Aid Certification; issued by either Alberta Red Cross or St. John’s Ambulance Authorities. Certification must be obtained within 3 months of hire date
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Record Check, not more than 6 months old before commencement of employment and every 3 years after that date.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
