Beading Workshop at MaKami Calgary Campus

A young Metis teacher with blue hair instructs a student on how to do Metis Indigenous beading in a workshop at MaKami College in Calgary, Alberta, Canada
Beading has been enjoyed by various cultures across the world for centuries. It has been used to share gifts, as visual group identifiers, and as a way of recording and translating cultural knowledge and promoting overall wellness.

In honour of National Truth and Reconciliation Day on September 30, MaKami welcomed our Metis host Aron Curcio as she introduced MaKami staff and students to the art of beading in a fun, 2-part beading workshop held in the MaKami Calgary campus.

Students and staff had fun learning basic flat beading on a baseball cap with all supplies and instruction provided, while having the opportunity to learn about this artform’s profound significance in various cultures.
