Makami College students show school spiriti!

Makami College 1st and 2nd year students showed their school spirit while on a field trip to St. Joe’s High School last week! Students were divided into massage table teams of 4 and competed with each other to show school spirit! There were chants and songs and a lot of laughing! The winners received movie tix! Second year student has dreams of opening own spa

Second year student Shelley Sargent took a six year break before returning to MaKami College this semester to take her second year of training. “I love learning and I love MaKami College,” says Sargent, who decided to come back and upgrade her training after finding out the college offered a second year program. “It sounded like a lot of fun and it has been. I’ve learned a lot of really valuable information that will help me with my career.” Sargen is currently working at a spa in Edmonton while in school. “I graduate in August.,” she says. “I’m thinking about going into business for myself – I would like to open my own storefront spa one day.”

Kerstin Pelletier is a Makami College alumni member! Pelletier graduated from MaKami College’s massage therapy program and decided to open her own spa. “I got a lot of confidence from learning at MaKami College and when I left I knew I had the tools to go out and be who I was and do a good job for my clients,” says Pelletier, who says she enjoys the feeling she gets from helping others. “I see people come in not feeling well, and they often leave and they say they feel like they have a dance in my step, and that’s a really good feeling to be able to do that for people.”

Couples Massage Workshop for the public on Sunday, Feb. 12

On February 12 MaKami College will be hosting a Valentine’s Day Couple’s Massage Workshop for the public!

During the workshop here at the massage therapy school in Edmonton, couples or close friends will learn how to relax, relieve stress and bond through the art of massage.

The workshop starts with a rose petal foot scrub and is followed by a quick lesson in how to massage your partner. You will each be given easy-to-follow massage routines, have some time to massage each other and you can even take the routines home with you to use later.

MaKami College holds biggest grad ever in December

MaKami’s largest grad ever was a success!

In December MaKami College massage therapy school held it biggest grad party to date, with over 160 people in attendance.

Held once again at the prestigious Fairmont Hotel MacDonald, December’s graduation night included a wonderful piano player, some very heartfelt speeches, great food and a packed dance floor with music by Edmonton’s famous DJ Harman B!

The reason this grad was so much bigger than previous celebrations was because it was the first graduating class for our second year students. This is the first time both first and second-year students got to share the celebration together.

Sports massage was originally developed to help athletes prepare their bodies for optimal performance, recover after a big event, or function well during training. Sports massage emphasizes prevention and healing of injuries. Today you do not have to be an athlete to benefit from sports massage.
